We (me and my team at AXS Guard) were fortunate enough to visit hack.lu 2024. One of the security conference references in the EU (apparently).

Here I discuss some talks that stood out for me. This can be for many reasons: content is obviously what matters most.. but also personality of the speaker, public speaking skills and (english) language skills are important to me.

Here I discuss my personal favourites. This is obviously very personal and opinionated..

Cybersecurity Awareness

I would categorize my list of favourites as awareness simply because they were eye opening to me: cybercrime is very serious business nowadays! Definitely in places where no regular jobs are to be found (Ukraine, or east europe in general) or threats from anti western powers: Russia, China, Iran

Secondly exploiting bugs such as buffer overflows in software is not that hard apparently.. and those are everywhere!

The Web of cognitive warfare - Jindrich Karasek

All about the big conspiracy theories.. Where do these society poisoning theories originate? How do the bad actors operate?

The XE Files - Trust No Router - James Atack

Embarrassing for us Belgians (Flanders part more specific): we stand out because it turns out one of the biggest Telecom suppliers helps cybercriminals by allowing to use a CISCO exploit discovered in 2023: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/cve-2023-20198

Cybercriminals use so called operational relay box networks (ORBs) to cause mayhem and get money out of your pocket! Telenet apparently happily accommodates those friendly people: Only Telenet exposes that many exploitable Cisco CBR-8 devices…

Ghosts’n’Gadgets: Common Buffer Overflows That Still Haunt Our Networks - Stanislav Dashevskyi

Let’s hack some home routers.. Buffer overflows everywhere!

And the rest?

That is for another blogpost.. So many interesting talks!
